This site will document the renovation progress of "The Columbian".
In 2004 we discovered an old stone building of character located in An Rinn, Co.Waterford, Ireland. Known locally as The Columbian, some people say it's so called because of it's likeness to an old dance hall in New York of the same name, other say it was built by an Irish emigrant who returned from working in Columbia.
The Columbian is the former home place of Martin J. O'Brien and his family. Martin J was father of the late Tessie Mooney (Tessie was born in The Columbian) of Mooneys Bar in Ring, the bar is still in the family and is run by her daughter Ann and husband Tom.
We purchased the building in 2005 and commenced the renovation process with the help of our friends, family and neighbours.
